BODY
MECHANICS |
|
| .. |
Body mechanics refer
to the methods and postures you use to accomplish daily
tasks and activities.
Improper body mechanics can result in strains and sprains as
well as more serious chronic problems in the neck and back.
Proper body mechanics are not always readily identifiable.
For example, just because a particular movement or practice
is not painful doesn’t mean that proper body mechanics are
being used. The ill effects can make themselves felt hours
or days later.
The following are a
few tips on proper body mechanics: |
.. |
-
Don’t lift and
twist
-
Do maintain proper
posture during standing activities, sitting, or lying
down
-
Don’t stand in
fixed position for long periods
-
Don’t lean forward
for prolonged periods during seated activities.
-
Don’t pull heavy
objects to move them.
-
Do lift using
proper lifting techniques
-
Don’t cradle the
phone between your ear and shoulder
-
Don’t repeatedly
raise your arms above shoulder level as this can damage
the rotator cuff.
-
Do wear knee pads
when doing activities performed on the knees such as
gardening and cleaning.
